POMONA, CA. (NOV. 12, 2016) As the second day of qualifying for the Auto Club Finals wraps up, our fields are set for tomorrow and a new champion has been crowned.
J.R. Todd’s blistering time of 3.680 @ 327.82 mph from Q3 earned him the track ET record as well as the number one qualifying position headed into tomorrow’s 16-car field. The back-to-back world champion, Antron Brown will start from the second position while most recent race winner, Steve Torrence will start third. Tony Schumacher, Leah Pritchett, Shawn Langdon, Richie Crampton, and Brittany Force make up the top half of the field.
Jack Beckman grabbed the number one qualifier hat at the top end of the track with a time of 3.865 @ 332.84 mph pass that he made in Q3. Beckman also nabbed the track ET record and track speed record. Courtney Force put up a great fight to take the pole but wound up second. Beckman’s DSR stablemate, Tommy Johnson Jr. will start third. John Force, Ron Capps, Robert Hight, Matt Hagan, and Del Worsham are also on the top half of the ladder.
KB Racing’s 3-car team went 1-2-3 in qualifying. Pro Stock points-leader, Jason Line grabbed the top spot with a 6.545 @ 211.33 mph run. His teammate, Bo Butner qualified second, while his main championship competitor, Greg Anderson is in third. Vincent Nobile, Alex Laughlin, Shane Gray, Drew Skillman, and Kenny Delco are also in the top half of the field.
Pro Stock Motorcycle
Privateer-rider, Jerry Savoie is the number one qualifier and points leader in the two-wheel class. Savoie threw down a 6.825 @ 196.19 mph pass in Q4 to gain the green hats as well as three bonus points. Those bonus points could make all the difference as he is in a near tie with the number two qualifier, Eddie Krawiec. Hector Arana Jr. picked up the third spot going into Sunday’s final eliminations. Andrew Hines, Angelle Sampey, Chip Ellis, Hector Arana, and Steve Johnson round out the top 8 qualifiers.
