WoO: Schatz wins again at Eldora

By Lee Elder
ROSSBERG, Ohio (May 12, 2018) – Let’s win two.

Donny Schatz survived a wild race with Logan Schuchart to complete a two-night sweep of the Let’s Race Two World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event at Eldora Speedway. Schatz led the final 25 laps of a very entertaining race.

“We love lapped traffic,” Schatz said. “You don’t get better if you’re not in it.”

Schatz won his eighth race of the 2018 campaign and his 11th at Eldora but Schuchart made it hard work.

Parker Price-Miller left the first five laps before Schatz, who started on the pole, assumed the top spot. By the seventh circuit of Eldora’s half-mile oval, Schuchart was second. After a caution on lap 14, Schuchart began pressuring Schatz. Schuchart spent much of the 30-lapper racing on the cushion along the outside wall as Schatz, the nine-time WoO champion, generally made his way along the inside. The leaders staged a furious race, even swapping grooves a few times, until a slow car brought out another caution flag. On the restart, Schatz pulled away and was not threatened over the final five laps.

Schuchart finished second to Schatz Friday as well and said after Saturday’s race, “Last night we did not want the lapped cars and tonight we needed them.”

“It is what is it is,” Schatz said. “We took advantage of the yellow. The tires cooled off, that helped.”

Aaron Reutzel finished third, followed by Kraig Kinser and Tim Shaffer.

NOTES: Race was held in conjunction with the AMSOIL USAC sprint cars. Chris Windom won the USAC feature. Brady Bacon was the only driver to enter both events … 36 WoO cars made qualifying attempts … David Gravel was the top WoO qualifier at 12.910 seconds … Heat winners included Kerry Madsen, Donny Schatz and Aaron Reutzel, Schatz won the Dash, Brent Marks won the Last Chance Showdown. The event was run quickly due to rainy weather predicted for the area. No rain fell prior to the completion of both 30-lap features.
