Atlanta: Qualifying R3 halted by rain

By Lee Elder
COMMERCE, Ga. (May 4, 2019) – NHRA and Atlanta Dragway officials have suspended professional qualifying during the third round of the Arby’s Southern Nationals due to impending inclement weather. A storm was nearing the facility that was believed to pack enough wind to make it necessary to stow and secure television and race management equipment, but organizers hope to complete the third round of qualifying and then run the fourth round as well after the weather clears and the track is dry.

The Pro Stock Motorcycle and Funny Car teams have completed their third qualifying rounds. Eddie Krawiec grabbed the top qualifying spot in Pro Stock Motorcycle with a pass of 6.851 seconds Saturday. Brittany Force held on to the top spot in Top Fuel when nobody could beat her time from Friday night.

Friday’s second round of professional qualifying was delayed by weather but the NHRA’s track crew was able to return the track to racing conditions despite the wet, heavy air that remained even after the rain stopped.

Eliminations are scheduled for Sunday, starting at 11 am, Eastern Time.
