BVR will have two TF Dragsters this weekend in Houston

By Anthony Caruso III

At the Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals presented by Pennzoil at Houston Raceway Park presented by Pennzoil in Baytown, Texas this weekend, Bob Vandergriff Racing will have two Top Fuel Dragsters at the property. This will be the first-time this has happened this season.

Shawn Reed will drive the second Top Fuel Dragster that he will share with Josh Hart, who received his Top Fuel license at Gainesville Raceway following the historic 50th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, this season. Jordan Vandergriff will drive the main BVR Top Fuel Dragster.

Reed will be sponsored by Hughes Oil Field Transportation this weekend.

“I’m excited to get back in the driver’s seat; it’s been a long time. My last race was in Pomona 2018,” Reed said. “At these past few races with Jordan (Vandergriff) driving I’ve been taking in everything around me, learning to do more jobs on the car and working with the crew chiefs.”

Reed’s dragster has been designed by Morgan Lucas’ race shop. Crew Chief Ron Douglas has been working with the staff there at Morgan Lucas’ shop to ensure that everything is ready for Reed’s debut with BVR.

“Shawn came to the shop in February after testing and we put him in the seat to work on pedal and level placement and general fitting,” Douglas said. “He came back last week and we made a few final changes to make sure he fit in the car properly.”

Doug will be working with Vandergriff on the main Top Fuel Dragster. Joe Barlam, who re-joined BVR in the off-season after working several seasons with Leah Pritchett, will serve as the crew chief for Reed’s team.

“This all wouldn’t be happening without Bob,” Doug said. “He made the investment and brought in all the right people to make our teams competitive. One of those people is Joe Barlam. Joe is a great asset to our team. He was with BVR before, so he knows how our program works. While I will be on Jordan’s car and Joe will be on Shawn’s, we are able to help each other out.

“Both cars have the same basic set up. After each run, we plan to get together to see how we can improve each car so we can keep making our racing program stronger.”
