KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Oct. 19, 2018) – Daryn Pittman scored his ninth victory of the 2018 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint car Series when he won the FVP Platinum Battery Shootout at Lakeside Speedway.
It was Pittman’s second win at the track but his first was back in 2003.
“Man, my car was fast,” Pittman said. “That was a lot of fun.”
Pittman led from start to finish and the race was slowed by only one caution period.
Donny Schatz finished second, .586 of a second behind the leader. Sheldon Haudenshild was third, followed by Shane Stewart and Joey Saldana. Schatz has 19 wins this season and remains the only driver with more than nine.
“Traffic got hairy but it felt like I could put the car where ever I wanted,” the winner said.
The race’s only caution flag came with 11 laps down in the 30-lap chase around the half-mile venue. Schatz was fourth when the caution came out but he jumped to second on the restart.
“The pace stayed pretty fast,” Schatz said. “We got ourselves in position where we could race for the win but we didn’t get it.”
