Kalitta Motorsports announced today that crew chief Jim Oberhofer has been released by the team from his position over seeing the Top Fuel dragster raced by Doug Kalitta.
The news came two days after Kalitta’s TAD car lost to Clay Millican in the second round of the Dodge Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway. Kalitta began the event fifth in the NHRA Countdown standings and dropped to sixth place.
The press release quoted team owner Connie Kalitta as saying, “I want to thank Jim for his years at Kalitta Motorsports and appreciate everything he accomplished here. I wish him the best in the future.”
Oberhofer had worked at Kalitta Motorsports for three decades.
Troy Fasching would take over as crew chief on the car, the release said.
