DSR statement about Papa John’s John Schnatter

By Lee Elder
RPMHD reached out to Don Schumacher Racing Thursday regarding comments made by John Schnatter, founder of Papa John’s Pizza. A familiar face at NHRA events in recent seasons, Schnatter made insensitive comments during a recent business conference call that have since come to light.

RPMHD asked whether the DSR organization would be making a comment or announcement regarding the Papa John’s sponsorship of Leah Pritchett’s Top Fuel dragster. DSR’s Allison McCormick responded to our request with the following statement:

“Don Schumacher Racing does not condone racism or insensitive language or behavior, no matter the situation or setting. We believe in diversity and promote diverse hiring practices.

DSR does not believe the recent comments made by Papa John’s Pizza founder and former chairman, John Schnatter, are a reflection of the Papa John’s organization as a whole.”

The next race for the NHRA’s Mello Yello Drag Racing Series will be the July 20-22 Dodge Mile High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colo.
