SONOMA, Calif. (July 30th, 2016) – Del Worsham displayed his speed and consistency on the first day qualifying and it was enough for him to hold on to the top qualifying spot through the remainder of the qualifying sessions. His 3.868 @ 327.43 miles per hour run in Q2 earned him and his team not only the green number 1 qualifier hat, but also the track E.T. record at Sonoma Raceway.
The 2015 Funny Car world champion has been winless so far on the 2016 season. This will be his second number 1 qualifier of the year, the first came at the NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio.
Del is confident in the team’s chances of hoisting the Wally in the winners circle tomorrow. “We feel very good about tomorrow. We found our tune up in that last pass and the DHL Toyota Camry is running strong. Proud of the effort of the DHL guys at the track and the guys that put in the work before we left. Lot of incentive to do well tomorrow, and we are confident we are ready to perform.”
