Sportsman driver dies after racing crash

COMMERCE, Ga. (May 6, 2018) – The National Hot Rod Association announced that sportsman driver Randy Alexander passed away at a local hospital following his crash at Atlanta Dragway Saturday.

Alexander, of Harvest, Alabama, had completed his quarter-mile race in the right lane of the strip when the car suddenly cut left at about 160 mph. His car was t-boned by Bob Mandell’s racer, after which Alexander’s car flipped.

Racing was stopped for better than an hour after the incident. Alexander and Mandell raced in the Top Sportsman category.
