Two straight for WoO’s Pittman

By Lee Elder
PEEVLY, Missouri (April 21, 2018) – Daryn Pittman won his second straight World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Cars event when he grabbed the lead with 17 laps to go and then hung on at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55.

The win was also Pittman’s second straight at the 1/3-mile, banked oval.

“Man, this is starting to get fun again,” Pittman said.

Points leader Donnie Schatz finished second, followed by Sheldon Haudenschild, David Gravel and Brad Sweet.

The track seemed to be abrasive during the events earlier in the evening. Both Pittman and Schatz said they used a more robust tire combination than they would normally choose for a 40-lap race.

“Daryn is really good at tire management,” Schatz said.

Schatz spent much of the race just behind the leaders, then nearly won the race on the final two laps, when he was able to track Pittman down.

Ian Madsen lead the early laps before Haudenschild took over to lead the eighth lap. Pittman caught Haudenschild on the 33rd lap, ducking low as the two exited the second corner and then completed the pass along the back straight. From there on, despite a few caution periods that gave the field a chance to tighten up on the leaders, Pittman held on.

NOTES: Top qualifier, Jason Sides. Heat races were win by Sides, Gravel, Sweet, Schatz. Craftsman Club Dash won by Schatz, C Main won by Greg Wilson, Last Chance Showdown won by Sammy Swindell.
