Dodge NHRA Nationals Q3 & Q4

READING, Penn. (September 23, 2017) It was yet another solid day of qualifying at Maple Grove Raceway. The fields have been set for the four professional classes of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.

Top Fuel

Clay Millican’s 3.669 second effort at 327.27 mph from Q2 could not be beat so he will head into tomorrow as the No. 1 qualifier in Top Fuel. Clay will have a bye-run in the opening round of eliminations. Doug Kalitta will start off-pole thanks to yesterday’s pass of 3.704 seconds at 333.66 mph. Points leader, Steve Torrence is third on the qualifying ladder with his 3.720 second effort at 327.66 mph. Brittany Force, Tony Schumacher, Leah Pritchett, Dom Lagana, and Antron Brown will also start their day from the top half of the ladder.

Funny Car

Robert Hight’s track record-setting 3.844 second lap at 339.02 mph from yesterday could not be topped in either of today’s qualifying sessions.  Hight will square off against Mike Smith in the first round of racing on Sunday. Matt Hagan’s 3.874 second run at 335.82 mph from Friday was good enough for the off-pole position. Defending world champion, Ron Capps is third with his 3.877 second pass at 327.43 mph. Jonnie Lindberg, Jack Beckman, Alexis Dejoria, J.R. Todd, and Courtney Force help make up the top eight qualifiers.

Pro Stock

Similarly to the nitro classes, Pro Stock’s top three qualifiers remained the same as they were after Friday’s final session came to a close. Bo Butner remained No. 1 with his 6.554 second pass at 210.18 mph. Butner will race Val Smeland in the first round of eliminations tomorrow. Butner’s KB Racing teammate, Jason Line is still second after making a 6.526 second lap at 210.70 mph in the final session this afternoon. Rookie of the Year candidate, Tanner Gray is third with his 6.565 second run from yesterday. Allen Johnson, Drew Skillman, Greg Anderson, Alex Laughlin, and Chris McGaha help round out the top half of the qualified field.
