Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Nationals Q1 & Q2

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 17, 2017) After a three week break, NHRA teams have regrouped and trekked their way to the first national event of the season on the East Coast. The Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals is always a special race because it marks the season debut of NHRA’s Pro Stock Motorcycle class. The provisional number one qualifiers in all four professional classes came into the first day of qualifying with something to prove. 

Top Fuel 

Tony Schumacher and the U.S. Army crew came out swinging with 3.682 second pass at 328.22 mph in the first session and held on for the provisional pole. Doug Kalitta continues to make personal elapsed time strides with a 3.698 second run at 328.78 mph. Reigning Top Fuel World Champion, Antron Brown posted a time of 3.716 seconds at 326.24 mph. Brittany Force, Steve Torrence, Troy Coughlin Jr., Leah Pritchett, and Clay Millican round out the top eight qualifiers. 

Funny Car

16x Funny Car World Champion, John Force flexed his muscles today with a blistering 3.832 second lap at 333.25 mph. Force’s teammate Robert Hight wasn’t too far behind with a 3.844 second run at 331.61 mph. Over the course of the three week break, Force and Hight switched crews. That decision clearly seems to be working. Matt Hagan ran a 3.854 second run at 328.70 mph. Courtney Force, Tommy Johnson Jr., Ron Capps, J.R. Todd, and Jack Beckman are currently in the top half of the field. 

Pro Stock

KB Racing’s continues to prove that they’ve got the horsepower under the hood. Jason Line and Bo Butner went 1 and 2 after the first two rounds of qualifying. Line threw down a 6.476 second run at 213.87 mph. While Butner followed swiftly with 6.477 second pass at 213.60 mph. Erica Enders put her 2014 Chevy Camaro in the number three spot with an impressive 6.490 second lap at 214.01 mph. The The entire field was wicked quick today with the slowest time being 6.708. Jeg Coughlin Jr., Greg Anderson, Shane Gray, Chris McGaha, and Drew Skillman help round out the top eight in the field. 

Pro Stock Motorcycle 

2016 Pro Stock Motorcycle World Champion, Antron Brown grabbed the pole with a 6.753 second pass at a blistering 198.99 mph. Harley-Davidson rider, Eddie Krawiec was forced to settle for second as he coursed the quarter-mile in 6.791 seconds at 198.17 mph. In spectacular fashion Rookie of the Year candidate, Joey Gladstone rode down the track in 6.793 seconds at 198.35 mph, good enough to hold down the third spot on the ladder. Andrew Hines, Hector Arana, LE Tonglet, Hector Arana Jr., and Steve Johnson make up the top half of the two-wheel field.
