Recap of Friday’s event at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Pass in Chandler, AZ:

PA-450x225

Friday’s Top Fuel runs were pretty interesting. A number of Top Fuel drivers struggled on a hot tricky racing surface in the first session. The first driver to attempt to make a qualifying pass in the second session was Antron Brown who recorded a 3.765 E.T. at 319.45mph, which surprisingly held for the number one qualifying spot at the conclusion of the day. The Pomona event winner, Steve Torrence, is currently in the number seven position at the conclusion of Friday with a qualifying 3.81 E.T. at 322.50mph. Other notables: Doug Kalitta, Tony Schumacher, and Brittany Force are all qualified in the top five positions. Meanwhile Top Fuel driver, Shawn Langdon, struggled the first day of qualifying recording a best 6.05E.T. at 113mph.

In the Funny Car category, during the first session of qualifying Courtney Force laid down a heart roaring E.T. that wasn’t caught for the rest of the day at 3.93 at 323.97mph. Last week’s winner, Ron Capps uses the slightly better conditions in the second qualifying session to move into the second position with a 3.95 E.T. 320.89mph. After struggling at the Winternationals, Tommy Johnson Jr. found some consistency after two solid runs that have Johnson qualified in the number four position 3.96 E.T. at 318.77mph.

For Pro Stock, just like in Pomona, Bo Butner found himself at the top of the qualifying chart at 6.61E.T. at 208.88mph. Butner’s teammates, Greg Anderson and Jason Line, are qualified in the second and third positions respectively. Defending Mello Yello Pro Stock world champion Erica Enders finished the first day in the number seven position 6.68 E.T. at 208.26mph.
